Peter J. Hotez, M.D., Ph.D.

Peter J. Hotez, M.D., Ph.D. is Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine where he is also the Co-director of the Texas Children’s Center for Vaccine Development (CVD) and Texas Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair of Tropical Pediatrics.  He is also University Professor at Baylor University, Fellow in Disease and Poverty at the James A Baker III Institute for Public Policy,  Senior Fellow at the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at Texas A&M University, Faculty Fellow with the Hagler Institute for Advanced Studies at Texas A&M University, and Health Policy Scholar in the Baylor Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy.

Constance M. Mobley, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Constance M. Mobley is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX, specializing in transplant surgery and surgical critical care. She earned her MD and PhD from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed her training at the University of Michigan and UCLA. Dr. Mobley holds several academic and leadership positions, including Associate Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation and Medical Director of the Surgical & Liver Intensive Care Unit. Her research interests include managing critically ill patients with liver failure and mitigating peri-operative complications, as well as championing health equity and ameliorating healthcare disparities. She is also the founder of the Rising Stars program at Houston Methodist Hospital, which provides summer internships to outstanding minority high school students and allows them to experience multiple medical careers firsthand.

Panels

DEI Panel: This panel will feature a moderated discussion on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the physician-scientist training pathway and career. This panel features three physician-scientist panelists, Dr. Erika Greene, Dr. Constance Mobley, and Dr. Carolyn Cannon

PSTP Panel: The Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) panel will feature administration and residents from Baylor Pediatrician-Scientist Program and Baylor MeRIT Internal Medicine Residency Track. 

​

Round Table Panels: Students will be grouped in tables of approximately eight students with one or two faculty to talk to for about 25 minutes. This will be about 4 rotations for this session. The faculty are all physician-scientists from various sectors/disciplines.

The 2023 South Regional APSA conference at Texas A&M School of Medicine will bring together students, trainees and faculty across various stages of the physician-scientist training pathway. It will provide a platform to network among different institutions, to promote diverse physician-scientist training, and to discover the multitude of career opportunities post-training.
